One day, I saw a giant yellow chick display in Sinpu Township
so I asked Zhi Xiang if any chicken food is famous here besides Liu's roast chicken
어느날 신푸읍에 엄청 큰 노란병아리 모형이 서있는걸 봤어요
그래서 쯔시앙한테 신푸에 리레스토랑 닭구이 말고 또 유명한 닭요리가 있냐고 물어봤죠
He said it was not a chicken but kind of chicken that cries in weird voice
oh, I thought, then, it is a chicken anyway
He saw my puzzled look and even though I pretended I understood it
He knew I didn't
That was too obvious coz I just nodded my head and stopped talking about it
:p
근데 쯔시앙이 말하기를 그게 그냥 닭이아니고 이상하게 우는 닭이라는거에요
음, 그래서, 그냥 어쨌든 닭이구나, 하고 생각했죠
일단 이해한 척 했는데, 쯔시앙이 제 표정을 보고는
아, 이해 못했구나, 하고 알아차렸어요
그냥 고개만 까닥이고는 더이상 얘기 안하니까 바로 알았겠죠

So, we got back to the office and he showed me the picture of the 'kind-of-chicken'
hey,
It was NOT a chicken nor even a kind of chicken
그래서 사무실로 돌아가서는 이 닭같은 새의 사진을 보여줬어요
근데요,
절대 닭같이 생기지가 않은거에요
Its name is Chinese Bamboo Partridge

그 새의 이름은 중국 대나무 꿩이었어요
Much cuter than chicken and this doesn't look like a chicken at all!
The colours of its body are various
from black, brown, pastel blue, egg-york colour to scarlet
닭보다 훨씬 귀엽고 뭣보다 닭같이는 전혀 안생겼죠!
검은색, 갈색, 파스텔하늘색, 계란 노른자색에 붉은 주황색까지
몸 색깔도 여러가지고 말이죠

이건 이틀된 새끼꿩입니다
Chinese bamboo partridge is native to eastern mainland China and Taiwan
smaller than most partridges
중국대나무꿩은요 동쪽대륙인 중국과 대만 토종새에요
그냥 꿩들보다 훨씬 작죠
This species is found in warm forested areas and grasslands,but is not entirely dependent on bamboo
despite its name.
따뜻한 숲쪽이나 풀숲에서 찾아볼 수 있는데,
이름과는 달리 꼭 대나무가 있는 곳에서만 사는 건 아니에요
It has its unique call, often rendered as Ki-ko-kuai or Kojukkei
This call is heard far more than the bird is actually seen
키코쿠이 또는 코퀘이 하고 이상한 소리로 우는데요
새가 있는 곳보다 훨씬 멀리까지 그 소리가 들려요
I can hear the call from my office in Jiuchong Hu
Ki-ko-kuai!

When it is sunny, it sounds clearer
조총후에 있는 제 사무실에서도 그 울음소리를 들을 수 있어요

날씨가 좋을 때는 그 소리가 더 잘 들려요*

This partridge is NOT yellow
why did they colour the bird all in yellow and call it a partridge?
what, should we use our imagination?-_-
처음 얘기로 돌아가서
이 꿩은 절대로 노란색이 아니거든요?
근데 왜 몽땅 노란색으로 칠해놓고서는 그게 꿩이라는 걸까요?
뭡니까, 상상력을 발휘해봐라 뭐 이런겁니까?
It was eye catching in yellow but at least put some spots on the wings!!!
노란색이 튀는건 알겠는데 그래도 날개에 점박이 정돈 그려달라구요!!
